Vakrasana (Half Spinal Twist)

Technique of Vakrasana:

Here's how to practice Vakrasana:

  • Sit down on the floor with your legs stretched out in front of you.
  • Bend your right knee and place the sole of your right foot on the outside of your left thigh.
  • Keep your left leg straight and your left foot flexed.
  • Inhale and raise your left arm straight up towards the ceiling.
  • Exhale and twist your torso to the right, bringing your left elbow to the outside of your right knee.
  • Place your right hand on the floor behind you for support.
  • Gently twist your head and neck to look over your right shoulder.
  • Hold the pose for a few deep breaths, feeling the stretch along the spine.
  • Inhale to release the twist and come back to center.
  • Repeat the same steps on the other side, bending your left knee and twisting to the left.


Remember to move slowly and gently into the pose, and only twist as far as feels comfortable for you. With regular practice, you can gradually increase your flexibility and experience the full benefits of Vakrasana.
