YOGA  AASANAS

Dhanur asana (Bow Pose)

Introduction

Dhanur asana, often referred to as Bow Pose, is a yoga posture that involves bending the body to resemble the shape of a bow. It's named after the Sanskrit word "Dhanu," which means bow. This pose is celebrated for its ability to invigorate the body while simultaneously fostering a sense of balance and focus. As you stretch your body into the shape of a bow, Dhanur asana symbolizes the strength and resilience required to overcome life's challenges. It's a dynamic pose that engages multiple muscle groups and promotes both physical and mental well-being.

Here's how to do Dhanur asana:

  1. Lie flat on your stomach with your arms by your side, palms facing up.
  2. Bend your knees and bring your heels towards your buttocks.
  3. Reach back with your hands and hold onto your ankles.
  4. Inhale deeply, then lift your chest and legs off the ground.
  5. Keep pulling your ankles and lifting your chest to create a bow shape with your body.
  6. Hold the pose for a few breaths, then exhale as you gently release and lower back down.

Remember to listen to your body and only go as far as feels comfortable for you. With practice, you can gradually increase the duration of the pose.
